Mooresville High School student Evan Wanner recently had the unique opportunity to participate in the North Carolina General Assembly’s Senate Page Program, gaining invaluable insights into the workings of state government.
The Senate Page Program offers high school students hands-on experience in the legislative process. During their time at the General Assembly, pages assist senators and staff with various tasks, including delivering documents, running errands, and observing committee meetings and floor sessions.
Evan Wanner, a sophomore student at Mooresville High School, spent the week of March 24, 2025, in Raleigh, immersing himself in the dynamic environment of the state legislature.
“My experience was a fun and interactive way to learn about North Carolina’s legislative process,” Evan said. “I am grateful for the opportunities and encouragement I receive as a student of Mooresville Graded School District. I am also grateful to Senator Vickie Sawyer for this opportunity.”
During his time as a page, Evan was able to:
- Observe Senate floor sessions and committee meetings.
- Interact with state senators and legislative staff.
- Gain a deeper understanding of the legislative process.
- Develop valuable professional skills.
The North Carolina General Assembly’s Senate Page Program provides a valuable educational experience for high school students across the state. It allows students to take part in the process of state government.
Evan’s participation reflects Mooresville High Schools commitment to providing students with opportunities to engage in civic education.
