Duke Health has finalized its $284 million acquisition of Lake Norman Regional Medical Center (LNRMC) and its affiliated businesses in Mooresville, North Carolina. The transition, which became official on April 1, marks a significant expansion of Duke Health’s presence beyond the Triangle region.
As part of the acquisition, the hospital has been renamed Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital. Employees and providers have been offered continued employment with Duke, ensuring a seamless transition for patients and staff. Interim leadership has been put in place while the search for a new hospital president is underway.
The 123-bed acute-care hospital, formerly owned by subsidiaries of Community Health Systems, Inc., will now operate under Duke Health’s network, with plans to integrate its electronic medical records system over the coming months. This transition will grant patients greater access to Duke Health’s specialty care services.
Duke Health, one of North Carolina’s leading academic health systems, aims to enhance clinical care, expand its medical research impact, and strengthen partnerships within the Lake Norman community. Hospital services, including 24-hour emergency care, labor and delivery, cardiology, surgical and orthopedic care, and outpatient imaging, will remain available, with Duke Health committed to maintaining and expanding high-quality, local care.
Duke Health leadership emphasized its long-standing expertise in clinical quality, safety, and operational excellence. The organization sees this acquisition as an opportunity to build a new foundation for health care in the Lake Norman region while continuing to prioritize patient-centered care.
