Carly Thompson Wins Belmont Abbey Excellence in Dance Education Award

On Friday, April 4, 2025, Mooresville Graded School District middle school dance teacher, Carly Thompson, was honored at Belmont Abbey College during their Dance Showcase with the Excellence in Dance Education award. This award recognizes her outstanding contributions to dance education and her positive impact on students.  Ms. Thompson teaches dance at both Mooresville Middle School and Selma Burke Middle School.

Ms. Thompson’s recognition comes after receiving an overwhelming number of votes and nominations from students, parents, and colleagues. The award highlights her:

  • Patience and kindness: Students emphasize her supportive teaching style and ability to encourage dancers of all levels.
  • Positive impact: Parents commend her ability to build confidence and empower students.
  • Dedication: Her commitment to providing a fun and enriching dance experience for her students.
Ms. Thompson receives check from Kristin Hayes, Performing Arts Dept Chair and Director of Dance at Belmont Abbey College.

The award includes a $1,000 grant to support the dance education programs at Mooresville Middle and Selma Burke Middle Schools, allowing for further growth and development.
