Lowe’s, one of the country’s top home improvement retailers, will close all of its U.S. locations for 24 hours on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, allowing associates a full day to spend with their families.
The company shared that this move is part of its ongoing effort to recognize the dedication of its workforce. Chairman and CEO Marvin Ellison expressed gratitude to Lowe’s 300,000 employees, stating the closure offers a “well-deserved day off” in appreciation of their year-round commitment.
This Easter closure adds to a growing list of holidays the company observes annually, including Thanksgiving and Christmas. While physical stores will be closed for the day, customers can still shop online at Lowes.com, which will remain fully operational.
As of March 2025, Lowe’s operates 1,751 stores nationwide, with Texas leading at 144 locations, followed by Florida with 132. By comparison, The Home Depot has more than 2,000 stores across the U.S., with the highest concentrations in California, Texas, and Florida.
The decision to close on Easter aligns with similar moves by other major retailers. In 2024, stores like JCPenney, Kohl’s, Macy’s, and Michaels also closed for the holiday, while others—such as Walmart, CVS, and Trader Joe’s—remained open. Although not a federal holiday, Easter is widely seen as a day of reflection, rest, and family time, and many retailers use the occasion to prioritize employee wellness.
As always, customers are encouraged to check their local store listings for updated hours around the holiday.
