The Town of Mooresville Board of Commissioners approved a 12-month moratorium on data centers during its November 2 meeting. Many jurisdictions across the state have recently adopted moratoriums on data centers and amended ordinances to specifically regulate their development, based on a number of concerns including electric capacity demand, water usage, and noise. The Mooresville moratorium temporarily pauses the consideration of new data center development proposals during the approved 12-month period and will allow the Town an opportunity to assess its zoning standards and to make necessary updates to appropriately address the potential impacts of this type of development on the community.

The approval of the moratorium represents the Town of Mooresville’s commitment to thoughtful growth and the safety and well-being of its entire community.
