Kindred Team Announces Deepwell, New Downtown Mooresville Restaurant

Future home of Deepwell, located at 185 N. Main Street in downtown Mooresville.

Downtown Mooresville is set to welcome a new restaurant from one of the region’s most celebrated hospitality teams.

Joe and Katy Kindred, the award-winning owners behind Kindred, Hello, Sailor, Milkbread and Albertine, have announced plans to open Deepwell, a new restaurant on Main Street in downtown Mooresville. The project is a partnership with Craig Deihl, corporate chef for Kindred Restaurants, who will serve as executive chef and co-owner.

The restaurant is expected to open in late summer or fall 2026 and will occupy a historic building on North Main Street. According to the Kindreds, the space shares a similar layout to their flagship Davidson restaurant, Kindred.

Deepwell will feature a New Orleans-inspired steakhouse concept centered around premium meats and hospitality. Plans include an in-house dry-aging program and a partnership with North Carolina-based W8 Ranch, which raises Wagyu beef.

The restaurant’s name pays tribute to Mooresville’s early history. Before the town was officially established, early settlers gathered around a large natural well in the area, and the growing community became known as “Deep Well.”

Guests can also expect a thoughtfully designed interior. Katy Kindred, who has helped shape the visual identity of the Kindreds’ restaurant portfolio, is leading the design of the space. The group recently unveiled the upscale Albertine restaurant in Charlotte, known for its elegant finishes, artwork and attention to detail.

The announcement comes as the Kindreds continue repairs to their namesake Davidson restaurant following a small fire and resulting water damage earlier this spring. The expected reopening timeline for Kindred is roughly the same timeframe as Deepwell’s anticipated debut.

In announcing the new restaurant, the Kindreds expressed appreciation for the support they have received from the Lake Norman community, local farmers, fellow restaurateurs, chefs and guests during the recent challenges surrounding the temporary closure of Kindred.

When Deepwell opens, it will mark the Kindred team’s first restaurant in Mooresville and add another destination dining experience to the town’s growing downtown restaurant scene.

Deepwell is planned for 185 N. Main St. in downtown Mooresville. Additional details, including menu offerings and reservation information, are expected to be released closer to opening day.
