A major transformation has been proposed for the historic Mooresville Dragway property, with plans calling for a new motorsports destination known as Race City Motorpark & Social Club.

According to project information released by owner Matt Erich, the proposed development represents an estimated $50 million investment and would expand the property into a large-scale motorsports, hospitality, and lifestyle venue on approximately 270 acres.

Plans for the project include a championship road course, a modern eighth-mile drag strip, climate-controlled vehicle garages, luxury villas, a clubhouse, dining facilities, fitness and wellness amenities, driving simulators, and event spaces.

The development would also include a private membership component. Published reports describe the concept as a motorsports-focused social club, with Erich referring to it as a “motorsports version of a golf country club.” Proposed amenities for members include private garages, clubhouse facilities, dining and social spaces, fitness and wellness offerings, and other exclusive features.

Mooresville Dragway has been a fixture in the local racing community since 1956, when it first opened as a dirt track. Over the decades, the facility evolved into a paved drag racing venue and became part of the area’s long-standing connection to motorsports and its reputation as “Race City USA.”

According to project plans, drag racing would remain part of the property’s future through the construction of a new eighth-mile drag strip. The overall vision combines racing, automotive culture, hospitality, and recreational amenities within a single destination.

The proposed redevelopment is currently subject to local government review, zoning approvals, and permitting requirements before construction can begin. Developers have indicated that the project would be built in phases following the approval process.
