No Address is making a difference for Hope of Mooresville (HOMe)
In the heart of Mooresville, a quiet yet powerful mission is changing lives. Hope of Mooresville (HOMe) provides temporary shelter and support services to local homeless women and children, offering more than just a roof over their heads—it provides a path to stability and independence. Since opening its doors in 2018, HOMe has worked tirelessly to break the cycle of homelessness for families in need, and today, thanks to community support, their impact continues to grow.

A Vision for Change
HOMe was founded by a dedicated group of community members who saw a critical gap in services for the homeless in Mooresville. Their vision was clear: to create a program that not only provided shelter but also equipped women and children with the tools needed for long-term success. What started as a single home has now expanded to two houses, thanks to the generosity of Centre Church, doubling the number of families HOMe can serve. To date, the organization has provided over 13,000 nights of shelter to those in need.

A Comprehensive Support System
HOMe is not just a place to stay—it’s a comprehensive program designed to help women regain their independence. Through case management services, residents receive financial literacy training, parenting classes, resume assistance, and access to job placement opportunities. HOMe also provides transportation to work and medical appointments, covers necessary fees, and ensures guests have hygiene supplies and other essentials. Unlike emergency shelters, guests typically stay at HOMe for at least six months, working toward permanent housing and self-sufficiency.

Challenges and the Growing Need
As Mooresville continues to grow, so does the demand for affordable housing. When HOMe first opened, the average wait for income-based housing was four months. Today, it can take up to 18 months, leaving many families in crisis. While the recent expansion of HOMe has allowed more women and children to receive help, the need still outweighs the available space. The organization hopes to expand further in the future to continue meeting the needs of Mooresville’s most vulnerable residents.

A Powerful Partnership
HOMe’s work recently caught the attention of Robert Craig Films, leading to a partnership with the film No Address. This powerful movie sheds light on the realities of homelessness, emphasizing that it is not a choice but a circumstance that can happen to anyone. HOMe shares this belief and treats every guest with dignity and respect, recognizing that these women and children are valuable members of the community who have simply fallen on hard times. Proceeds from the film will directly support HOMe’s mission, ensuring they can continue to provide essential services to those in need.

Success Stories and Lasting Impact
The true measure of HOMe’s success lies in the lives it has changed. Recently, a young mother and her two children transitioned from HOMe into their own apartment—a milestone made possible by the organization’s unwavering support. From securing a housing voucher to helping her obtain a driver’s license, job training, and medical care for her children, HOMe stood by this family every step of the way. Stories like these serve as a testament to the program’s effectiveness, with a 75% graduation rate and a 100% success rate in helping mothers regain custody of their children.

How the Community Can Help
The work of HOMe would not be possible without community support. There are many ways to get involved, from volunteering to donating essential supplies like toilet paper, paper towels, and cleaning products. Financial contributions are also crucial in keeping HOMe’s two houses running 365 days a year. Donations can be made through their website, www.hopeofmooresville.org.

Looking Ahead
HOMe has big plans for the future, including a potential expansion to serve even more families. In the meantime, they continue to raise awareness about homelessness through events like their annual fundraiser, The Light is Always On, held each September.
For those interested in learning more about homelessness and supporting HOMe’s mission, No Address will be showing at Amstar Mooresville on February 28. HOMe encourages the community to attend and be part of the conversation.
