Whataburger Set to Open in Mooresville: A New Burger Spot on the Horizon

Mooresville’s dining scene is about to get a delicious upgrade with the arrival of Whataburger, the iconic Texas-based fast-food chain. Located at 604 River Highway, this new spot will bring some big flavors to the area, featuring the chain’s famous burgers, signature spicy ketchup, and the convenience of 24/7 service. For fans of the chain, this marks the long-awaited arrival of Whataburger in North Carolina, a state the chain has been eyeing for a while.

This Mooresville location is part of a larger expansion effort that includes other North Carolina cities like Gastonia, Charlotte, Hickory, and Winston-Salem. Whataburger made its debut in the Southeast with a location in South Carolina in 2024, and now the brand is bringing its well-loved menu to even more fans in the region.

The new restaurant promises a modern dining experience with double drive-thrus and digital ordering options, including curbside pickup. And for those who crave a late-night burger, the Mooresville location will be open 24/7, making it the perfect stop any time of day or night.

However, if you’ve been around Mooresville for a while, you might be wondering if this is the same as the local What-A-Burger. While the names are similar, the two chains are entirely separate. The local What-A-Burger, established in 1956 by E.L. Bost and C.W. Bost, operates independently of the Texas-based Whataburger, despite the almost identical name.

Although an official opening date hasn’t been confirmed yet, construction is underway at the former O’Charley’s site on River Highway. Given the excitement surrounding Whataburger’s expansion, it’s sure to be a hit when the doors open.
