Mooresville golfers of all skill levels have a new opportunity to improve their game under the guidance of PGA professional Jay Reid. With over 40 years of experience in the golf industry, Reid has brought his expertise to Mooresville Golf Range, offering a variety of programs tailored to players of all ages.
A Lifetime of Coaching Excellence
Reid’s journey in the golf world began in 1986 at Winton Country Club in Amherst, Virginia. His passion for teaching led him to work with the nationally recognized Dana Rader Golf School, where he helped launch the golf school at Ballantyne Resort. Over the years, Reid has refined his teaching methods and gained industry recognition, including being named a “Best in State” coach by Golf Digest and receiving multiple National US Kids Top 50 Honorable Mentions.
“For me, the most fulfilling part of coaching is seeing a student’s excitement when they hit a great shot,” Reid shares. “That moment of pride and joy is why I love what I do.”
Programs for All Skill Levels
Reid’s first year at Mooresville Golf Range is bringing new programs to the community, including the Welcome to Golf class for adults who are new to the game. This three-session course, beginning March 11, introduces participants to key skills such as putting, chipping, pitching, and full swings. The goal is to help new golfers build confidence and enjoy the game with friends, family, and colleagues.

Additionally, junior golfers can participate in Spring Break Camps and after-school programs, designed for ages 6-14. These camps incorporate fun, game-based learning to teach fundamentals while keeping kids engaged. In the summer, week-long camps will further develop young golfers’ skills through hands-on instruction and interactive activities.
“I believe in making golf fun,” says Reid. “Playing better always makes it more enjoyable, but I also emphasize skills that help young players handle challenges both on and off the course.”
A Unique Coaching Approach
What sets Reid apart is his extensive experience and commitment to continuous learning. Having trained alongside top LPGA instructors and participated in advanced education programs, he tailors lessons to each player’s skill level. Beginners focus on the fundamentals—grip, stance, and alignment—while advanced players receive in-depth analysis using the Sportsbox 3D video system.

He also stresses the importance of mindset, helping golfers shift their perspective to enjoy the game rather than striving for perfection.
“People only see the best players performing at their peak on TV,” Reid explains. “My job is to help students enjoy the game, understand the process, and improve at their own pace.”
Golf as a Lifetime Sport
Reid has seen firsthand how golf brings people together. Whether it’s preparing for a company golf outing, making new friends, or enjoying the game in retirement, he believes golf is a sport for everyone. His goal is to help students feel confident enough to say ‘yes’ when invited to play.

Since moving to Mooresville 18 years ago, Reid has built strong ties in the community. He looks forward to growing his programs at Mooresville Golf Range and welcomes ideas for new classes.
“If there’s a class you want, let me know,” he says. “I’m here to help you play better golf.”
