Mooresville’s beloved Moor Park is undergoing a comprehensive renovation designed to rejuvenate the community and enhance pedestrian accessibility. Established in 1939, this historic ballpark will soon feature extensive improvements aimed at drawing visitors and boosting growth in the town’s southern district.

Renowned for being the former home of the minor league Mooresville Moors until 1953, Moor Park has also been a key site for youth baseball activities since the 1990s and currently serves as the home field for the Mooresville Spinners, a summer collegiate baseball team. Due to renovations, the Spinners have temporarily relocated their home games to Mooresville High School for the 2025 season, starting with their opening night on May 30 against the Carolina Disco Turkeys.

The renovation project will unfold in two phases. The first phase will focus primarily on modernizing the baseball field itself, including upgraded playing surfaces, new concession stands, improved restroom facilities, enhanced dugouts, and increased accessibility features. The second phase will introduce enhancements that prioritize pedestrians, including new sidewalks, upgraded roads, and aesthetically pleasing streetscapes.

End of an Era: Demolition Begins at Historic Moor Park

Although the improvements are broadly welcomed, some nearby residents have expressed concerns about potential drawbacks such as increased traffic congestion, noise, bright lighting, and ongoing parking challenges.

Local business owners, on the other hand, anticipate positive outcomes from the project, such as enhanced foot traffic and expanded economic opportunities for nearby establishments.

Mooresville Mayor Chris Carney highlighted the broader community advantages of the project, envisioning Moor Park as a lively hub that sparks additional revitalization throughout the neighborhood.

To proactively address parking issues, the town has already secured adjacent land for creating approximately 300 new parking spaces. The overarching objective is to transform the area into an inviting, pedestrian-centric environment.

Completion of the project’s initial phase is expected by spring 2026, allowing the Mooresville Spinners to return for the 2026 season. A definitive schedule for the second phase has not yet been determined.
