Retirement Spurs 0pening On The Mooresville Graded School District Leadership Team

After many years of dedicated service, Dr. Scott Smith, Chief Operations Officer, has announced his decision to retire, effective August 31, 2025. Dr. Smith’s contributions to the Mooresville Graded School District have been significant over the 18 years he has been on the MGSD district leadership team. His leadership, vision, and commitment have played a vital role in our success, and we wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement!

In light of Dr. Smith’s retirement, Dr. Michael Royal will return to the role of Chief Operations Officer. Dr. Royal brings a wealth of experience to this position as he previously served in this role prior to moving into the Chief of Schools position. Dr. Royal’s deep understanding and passion for operations combined with his proven leadership skills makes him an ideal fit for this role. Dr. Royal’s transition will be effective September 1, 2025.

The role of Chief of Schools will be posted the week of May 19 with a plan for it to be filled prior to September 1, 2025.  Once this position is filled, additional communication will be shared.

We appreciate Dr. Smith for his years of service and congratulate Dr. Royal on his return to operations!
