As the United States prepares to commemorate its 250th Anniversary in 2026, Iredell County is taking a localized approach to celebrating this historic milestone through the launch of its own community-driven initiative: Iredell NC 250.
In partnership with America 250 NC – an initiative established by Governor Roy Cooper to coordinate North Carolina’s official Semiquincentennial commemoration, Iredell County has formally adopted a resolution endorsing the statewide mission while creating the Iredell County America 250 Committee to focus on local projects and events that reflect the unique history, culture, and contributions of Iredell County, as part of the broader state and national effort.

Representing communities across the county—including Mooresville, Troutman, Statesville, and Harmony—the committee is coordinating projects and events that highlight Iredell County’s unique history, culture, and contributions over the past 250 years, while inspiring civic engagement for generations to come.

Recently, the Town of Mooresville unveiled its America 250 Celebration installation at the corner of Main Street and McLelland Avenue in Downtown Mooresville, creating a vibrant community photo opportunity. Community members gathered to celebrate the unveiling and kick off the Town of Mooresville’s participation in the national commemoration.
Additionally, the Town of Troutman and the Town of Mooresville officially recognized the initiative with an America 250 proclamation during March 2 Town Board Meetings.

Looking ahead, Iredell County will further commemorate this milestone with the dedication of the Liberty Tree on April 24, honoring the spirit of unity and freedom that has shaped the nation’s history.
Residents are encouraged to get involved by attending upcoming events, participating in community art initiatives, and submitting creative entries for countywide contests. The America 250 NC Iredell County Committee has created a website that details information about the America 250 celebration, how to get involved and upcoming event opportunities. You can also follow on social via the @IredellNC250 Facebook page.
