Since 2012, Hands Helping Hands Ministry has quietly become one of Mooresville’s most compassionate lifelines—meeting basic needs, lifting hearts, and reminding neighbors that help is never far away. Founded by Evangelist Dianne Miller, the ministry was born from a simple but powerful prayer: “Lord, give me an assignment that would be beneficial to Your people.”
Now in its 13th year, Hands Helping Hands continues to live up to its name, offering food, clothing, furniture, and hope to local families—thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers, community supporters, and the unwavering faith that started it all.

A Ministry of Helps
The ministry operates under the belief that “everybody can do something,” even if they can’t do everything. That message is echoed every Sunday morning from 8:00 to 8:15 a.m. on WHIP 1350AM & 99.3FM through their radio ministry, which shares messages of encouragement and God’s Word with listeners across the area.
In addition to seasonal outreach events, Hands Helping Hands Ministry also hosts a weekly food giveaway every Sunday from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Upper Praise Ministries, located at 442 West Moore Avenue in Mooresville. This first-come, first-served event ensures families in need have access to groceries and essential pantry items on a consistent basis.
From day one, Evangelist Miller’s heart has been guided by a deep desire to serve. Raised by an aunt who was always giving to others, she learned early what it means to lend a helping hand. “Many hands go into this ministry,” she says. “People give their time, talent, and treasure.”

“Free Day” and Feeding Hundreds
One of the ministry’s hallmark outreach events is “FREE DAY”—a massive giveaway held twice a year where donated items are laid out on half an acre of land, and families can shop completely free of charge. What started with around 100 visitors in 2013 has grown into a community tradition.
Another signature project happens each Thanksgiving, when Hands Helping Hands partners with Randy Marion Corporation, Food Lion, Costco, local churches, and countless volunteers to provide 200 complete turkey dinners to families in need.
At Christmastime, the ministry turns its attention to children, making the season bright for more than 50 local kids with personalized gifts, a holiday dinner, and smiles that light up the room. “The hugs and joy on their faces—that’s what it’s all about,” Evangelist Miller says.

A Community Responds
Over the years, Hands Helping Hands has been recognized for its outstanding service. Awards have come from the NAACP, Las Amigas Corporation, and even the Daughters of the Confederacy. The Mooresville Chamber of Commerce also counts the ministry among its members.
But the most meaningful praise comes from the families served—people who may be struggling silently despite outward appearances. “Hard times come to everyone,” Miller reflects. “Never assume anything about anyone. Help them if you can.”

Dreams for the Future
Looking ahead, the ministry is hoping to renovate a house that was donated to them. The vision is to create a safe space where individuals and families can come not only for physical help but also for guidance, counseling, and support. To make this dream a reality, they are actively seeking contractors, laborers, and financial supporters to help with the renovation.
All donations to the ministry are tax-deductible under their 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, and volunteers are always welcome. As Evangelist Miller says, “Volunteers are made to feel like family—because we are a family.”

Get Involved
The next “FREE DAY” event is coming up on June 20, and the ministry is calling for volunteers to help sort, organize, and distribute items. Whether you have a few hours, a donation, or a skill to share, there’s a place for you.
