The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for its upcoming Teen Academy, set to begin on July 8, 2025. This free, 10-session program—held every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM through August 7—is designed to educate, empower, and connect local teens with law enforcement in a positive and engaging way.

Developed by Sheriff Darren Campbell, the Teen Academy addresses some of the most pressing issues facing today’s youth. From the challenges of transitioning from middle to high school, to peer pressure, social media, texting, bullying, and drug use, the program offers valuable tools and guidance to help teenagers navigate their daily lives with confidence.

What sets the Teen Academy apart is its unique blend of classroom learning, hands-on demonstrations, and open dialogue. The Sheriff’s Office brings in trained officers and guest speakers to lead interactive sessions that are both informative and engaging. Students are encouraged to ask questions, participate in activities, and develop a deeper understanding of the situations they may face in their schools, homes, or social circles.

At its core, the Teen Academy is about building relationships. By fostering meaningful connections between teens and deputies, the program aims to break down barriers and promote mutual respect. These connections often grow into long-lasting mentorships that continue well beyond the final class.

The Sheriff’s Office emphasizes that the program is not just about teaching safety or awareness—it’s about equipping young people with real-world problem-solving skills and showing them they have a support system in their community.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to register their teens early, as spots are expected to fill quickly.
