A Quirky Haven for Collectors and the Curious
Mooresville, NC – Brad Kalmikoff, the mastermind behind Crazy Cool Collectibles, isn’t your average store owner. With a passion for the peculiar and a knack for finding the extraordinary, he’s transformed a simple storefront into a haven for collectors and the curious.
“I’ve always been a professional Ebayer, buying and selling, as well as collecting,” Brad explains. “For my 40th birthday present to myself, I decided I no longer wanted to work for the man any longer. So that is when I decided it was time to take the ultimate risk, quit my job and open my own business!”
Brad’s journey into the world of collectibles began with a childhood fascination, ignited by his stepdad’s Star Wars collection. As he grew older, his passion intensified, leading him to amass a vast array of toys, memorabilia, and oddities. It wasn’t long before his personal collection outgrew his home, prompting him to share his treasures with the world.
In 2020, Brad took the leap and opened Crazy Cool Collectibles in downtown Mooresville. The store is a testament to his eclectic tastes, featuring everything from vintage action figures to life-sized movie props. A towering Raptor greets visitors at the entrance, setting the tone for the whimsical adventure that awaits inside.
“No other collectible store has a life-sized Raptor as soon as you walk in as well as a fully life-sized set up of the Simpson’s living room, just because,” Brad exclaims.
What sets Crazy Cool Collectibles apart from other collectible stores is Brad’s unique approach to business. He prioritizes community over profit, fostering a welcoming environment where customers can connect with like-minded individuals. Regular events, such as the “RAVE” (Really Awesome Vendor Event), provide opportunities for folks to buy, sell, and trade.
“All I care about is the community,” Brad emphasizes. “They come first, before making money, me, or the store. It’s super important to network and build relationships so that we can all refer to each other and all prosper.”
Brad’s infectious enthusiasm and quirky sense of humor have made him a beloved figure in the Mooresville community. He’s not afraid to be himself, and his authenticity shines through in every interaction. Whether he’s sharing a humorous anecdote or offering advice to a fellow collector, Brad’s passion is contagious.
“I thought I knew everything, turns out I don’t,” Brad admits. “It’s a hard lesson for some people, especially me, but I am more reserved in my elder age and have learned to take my time and listen to make sure I make the best decisions for the customers, my business, and myself, in that order.”
As for the future, Brad has big plans for Crazy Cool Collectibles. He envisions a multi-faceted facility that includes a free-play arcade, a small business mini-mall, and a venue for local bands. Until then, he’ll continue to curate a unique collection, foster a sense of community, and bring joy to collectors of all ages.
Born and raised in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago, Brad moved to Mooresville to be closer to his parents. A former consultant for high-end audio/video systems, Brad’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to the world of collectibles. His journey from six-figure corporate job to quirky store owner is a testament to his unwavering passion and his belief in pursuing his dreams.
