Mooresville, NC – For 46 years, the Broy family on Scanlon Road has transformed their home into a magical winter wonderland, captivating the hearts of neighbors and passersby alike. Their elaborate Christmas display has become a beloved local tradition, drawing crowds each holiday season.
“We love the Christmas Holiday season and that inspired us to start with a display. We have been using inflatables for over 20 years,” said Steve Broy, the homeowner.
“My favorite inflatable is the Christmas Vacation display with Cousin Eddie.”
The Broys’ dedication to creating a festive atmosphere is evident in every detail. Their collection of inflatable decorations, including a cherished Cousin Eddie from “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” adds a playful touch to the display. The family’s handmade wooden stockings, adorned with twinkling lights, create a warm and inviting ambiance.
Despite the challenges of storing and maintaining such a large display, the Broys remain committed to spreading holiday cheer. They begin the installation process before Halloween, ensuring the display is ready to shine by Thanksgiving. The family’s son, Stephen, is the mastermind behind the dazzling light show, while the granddaughters assist with the inflatable decorations.
“We have people driving by every night and especially on the weekends,” Broy said.
In 2018, the Broys faced a significant setback when a house fire destroyed much of their display. However, thanks to their insurance and unwavering determination, they quickly rebuilt their holiday masterpiece.
“We add to our display every year, but it’s getting more difficult because we’re running out of space, and we’ve started to move into the neighbors’ yards, and they don’t mind at all.
The Broys’ advice for aspiring decorators is to start small and gradually expand the display over time. By taking this approach, they have created a truly extraordinary Christmas experience that continues to bring joy to the community.
“The most challenging part of the display is walking through the yard and not tripping over things,” proclaimed Broy.
