Move over, reindeer! There’s a new Santa Claus in town, and he’s trading in the sleigh for a powerful red Indian Challenger Limited. William Blase, better known around Mooresville as “Big Santa,” is spreading Christmas cheer in a way that’s turning heads and melting hearts.
Blase isn’t your average Santa. A lifelong motorcycle enthusiast (with 31 years under his belt!), he’s combined his love for two wheels with the festive spirit to create a unique holiday tradition. Fueled by the growing Christmas spirit in his household and a desire to uplift the community after Hurricane Helene’s devastation, Big Santa took to the streets in a full Santa suit, complete with a custom-made helmet (courtesy of MotoLoot.com who rushed the order after learning about Blase’s mission for Bub’s Ride, a local charity event for children).
“I read an article about kids in Western North Carolina needing toys, and it really hit me. I’ve spent so much time exploring the beautiful roads there on my motorcycle, and I felt a strong urge to give back to the community that’s given me so much. My wife was incredibly supportive, and we decided to donate a thousand dollars to help these kids. It just felt right. Then, a friend connected me with Keith from Bub’s Ride, and I knew I’d found the perfect way to make a bigger impact. I wanted to inspire others to join the cause, so I started sharing videos and pictures of my journey. I’m grateful for the support of my friends and family, who have been sending toys to donate on their behalf. Together, we’re spreading holiday cheer one mile at a time.”
But Big Santa isn’t just about the jolly appearance. He’s on a mission to spread smiles. Blase cruises the streets, waving to everyone he sees, his booming Christmas tunes blasting from his motorcycle’s stereo (a necessity for capturing those epic dance moves he throws down while riding!). His trusty steed, affectionately named Miranda after the fiery country music star Miranda Lambert, is a head-turner in itself – a vibrant red machine that perfectly complements Big Santa’s larger-than-life personality.
While his family offers unwavering support (though his wife prefers to stay camera-shy!), Big Santa hasn’t yet earned a nickname on par with his motorcycle-riding persona. But that’s all part of the fun! He welcomes any creative suggestions that capture the essence of his unique holiday mashup.
Big Santa’s cheer isn’t confined to Mooresville. He ventures out on weekends, spreading his holiday spirit to neighboring towns, ensuring that no one misses out on a dose of festive joy. This year marks his first full-fledged Santa-on-a-motorcycle experience, but spreading cheer through festive attire has been a tradition for much longer. Looking ahead, Big Santa hints at expanding his repertoire, perhaps including the Easter Bunny or a Bald Eagle on his future holiday journeys.
The most rewarding part for Big Santa? Seeing the pure joy on people’s faces. Whether it’s kids stopping in their tracks, mesmerized by the sight of a Santa on a motorcycle, or adults breaking into wide smiles, Big Santa finds immense pleasure in bringing happiness to others.
His contagious Christmas spirit doesn’t stop at spreading cheer. Big Santa is actively involved in Bub’s Ride, raising awareness for the event and encouraging others to participate. He’s become a local celebrity, stopping to help a young woman whose family’s home burned down just days before. It’s these acts of kindness, big and small, that truly embody the spirit of the season.
So, if you see a red blur with a booming stereo and a jolly Santa clinging on (safely, of course!), wave him down! Big Santa welcomes greetings and photo opportunities, reminding everyone that the holiday season is about more than just presents. It’s about spreading cheer, helping others, and creating memories that will last a lifetime. And in Mooresville, that might just involve a motorcycle-riding Santa Claus leading the way.

Mooresville Gears Up for the 5th Annual Bub’s Ride
Mooresville is buzzing with excitement as the 5th Annual Bub’s Ride approaches on December 14th. This beloved community event, organized by the Statesville Police Department, is a heartwarming initiative to bring joy to children in Iredell and Rowan Counties.
The ride kicks off at 10 AM at Tilley Harley-Davidson, where participants are encouraged to bring a toy donation. From there, a spirited convoy of motorcycles and vehicles will make its way to Blue Collar Cycle Co. in Salisbury, where a second toy donation can be dropped off.
The event is led by a dedicated team, including Keith Bills of Carolina Steel Motorcycle Ministry, digital creator Anthony Maes, and Brandon McNeely, founder of Blue Collar Syndicate LLC and owner of Blue Collar Cycle Company in Salisbury, NC.
Brandon, a dedicated community member, has been instrumental in organizing this event and ensuring that children in need receive gifts during the holiday season. His efforts, along with the support of local businesses like Carolina Steel, Tilley Harley-Davidson, Blue Collar Cycle, and Great Western Motorcycles, make Bub’s Ride a resounding success year after year.
