Mooresville residents allowed to resume car and pressure washing under eased rules
With the shift to Fall and the transition away from peak water use season, the Town of Mooresville is easing select enhanced Stage 2 water conservation measures. Effective immediately, residents may wash vehicles at home and resume pressure washing activities. Bulk potable water sales are also now available. All other water conservation restrictions remain in place.
In May, the Town took measures to reduce nonessential water use and protect long-term water supply reliability. These measures aligned with surrounding municipalities that also draw water from the Catawba-Wateree System. Since then, with the support of the community in following these protocols and additional rainfall, the Town has seen improvement in the key indicators that determine drought stages: reservoir storage, streamflow, and drought conditions. As a result, the Town is easing certain restrictions while remaining confident that continued community conservation efforts will allow us to meet water use reduction goals throughout Stage 2. The Town will continue to monitor conditions and encourage responsible water use.
If conditions continue the same trajectory, the Town is hopeful that it will formally move into a lesser drought stage in the coming months. In the meantime, the Town would like to thank the community for following the protocols thus far.
The following restrictions still apply to all customers served by the Town’s water system:
Irrigation is restricted to a two-day schedule (Tuesdays at 6 p.m. to Wednesdays at 6 a.m. & Saturdays at 6 p.m. to Sundays at 6 a.m.).
These measures apply to:
- In-ground irrigation systems
- Hose-end sprinklers
- Automatic irrigation systems
Other restrictions include:
- Operation of decorative fountains or water features not supporting aquatic life
- Filling, draining, or refilling swimming pools (limited top-offs are permitted only for maintenance and liner protection)
Residents and businesses are still allowed to use the following:

- Drip irrigation
- Watering cans
- Irrigation for newly-installed landscaping during establishment periods
- Irrigation supplied by private ponds
The following exceptions apply:
- Private well systems
