Dr. Ann Nivens of Mooresville has been named Ms. North Carolina Senior America 2025, a title that reflects her decades of service in education, community advocacy, and the arts.
Born on December 16, 1954, in Sumter, South Carolina, and raised in Manning, Dr. Nivens began her career in education in 1976. Over the course of more than 40 years, she served as a teacher and educational leader, earning distinctions such as Teacher of the Year, Assistant Principal of the Year, and the Distinguished Star Award for Educational Improvements during her tenure as a principal in Charlotte, North Carolina.
She earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Gardner-Webb University in 2006 and holds certifications as both Principal and Superintendent. After officially retiring in 2010, she continued to support public education by serving as interim principal at 21 Charlotte-area schools through 2020. Her work focused on fostering inclusive school environments, coaching staff, and leading successful educational initiatives.
Outside of education, Dr. Nivens is a volunteer Guardian ad Litem, advocating in court for abused and neglected children. She also currently serves as President of the Mooresville/Lake Norman Rotary Club, where she leads community service projects aligned with the organization’s motto, Service Above Self.

Her entrepreneurial endeavors include a nationally recognized career in network marketing with Excel Communications, where she served as a National Training Director and top money earner. More recently, she has worked as an independent travel agent, helping clients plan memorable vacations.
Dr. Nivens is also a dedicated performer—singing, dancing, and playing the drums at local events and charity functions. She donates all of her performance tips to children’s charities.
She is the proud mother of four and grandmother of six. After the passing of her husband five years ago, she shares that she now feels blessed to have found love again.
With a lifelong commitment to service and creativity, Dr. Ann Nivens is honored to bring her voice and experience to the national Ms. Senior America stage later this year.
