Cat Mom Making a Fashion Splash with Casstastrophe

Calling all Mooresville fashionistas with a flair for the fun and funky! There’s a new name to know in the local scene, and it’s anything but a catastrophe – it’s Casstastrophe!

Behind the whimsical brand is Mooresville’s own Cassie, a 34-year-old firecracker with a passion for design and a feline sidekick named George. Though she holds a degree in Anthropology and Gender Studies, her true calling lies in transforming fabrics into fabulous finds.

Cassie’s love affair with fashion began in her youth, fueled by a deep admiration for the iconic Betsey Johnson. Years later, while working for an online boutique, the opportunity to learn how to sew ignited a spark. With a sewing machine in hand and a determination to conquer YouTube tutorials, Cassie embarked on a journey of self-taught design.

“I don’t have any formal training,” Cassie admits, “but I’ve learned from countless online resources, indie sewing patterns, and a whole lot of trial and error – like that time I made a top that wouldn’t fit over my head because I had no idea about stretch percentages!” she laughs.

Casstastrophe’s aesthetic is a vibrant mix of influences – a touch of Wednesday Addams, a sprinkle of Lisa Frank, and a healthy dose of Dolly Parton with an Elvira twist. Inspiration strikes from everywhere, from pop culture icons like Taylor Swift (whose Eras Tour outfit Cassie recreated) to classic films like “The Parent Trap” and “To Wong Foo.”

“I create for every occasion,” says Cassie, “from lounging at home to rocking out at concerts or turning heads on date night. My designs are all wearable pieces that I would wear myself, always with a unique detail, a splash of color, or a bold print.”

Cat lovers will appreciate the occasional fabric featuring pop culture felines like Grumpy Cat or Hello Kitty. For those seeking a one-of-a-kind look, Cassie offers custom creations, transforming a client’s vision into a dream dress.

While Casstastrophe doesn’t have a physical store yet, you can find a selection of designs at Local Merch in Cornelius. The brand truly thrives online at casstastropheshop.com and on social media (@cassiedoeswhat and @shopcasstastrophe on Instagram).

Looking to meet the mastermind behind the magic? Catch Cassie at upcoming vendor fairs in the Lake Norman area. This year, she’s aiming to participate in at least one event every other month, spreading the joy of playful fashion across the community.

Cassie’s ultimate dream? To see her designs on the likes of Taylor Swift or Miley Cyrus. But the real reward lies in the connections she makes.

“Every message from a customer who feels beautiful in my creations is pure magic,” Cassie beams.

So, Mooresville, are you ready to embrace your inner quirky fashionista? Look no further than Casstastrophe – where fun meets fashion and every outfit is an adventure!
