The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Mooresville and surrounding areas, in effect from 7:00 AM Friday to 7:00 AM EST Saturday. This warning signifies that significant winter weather is imminent and residents should take immediate steps to prepare.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Heavy Mixed Precipitation: Expect a combination of snow, sleet, and freezing rain, making travel conditions hazardous.
  • Accumulations: Total snow and sleet accumulations are predicted to be between 1 and 3 inches, with ice accumulations around two-tenths of an inch.
  • Impacts: These conditions will likely make roads treacherous and potentially impassable. The weight of snow and ice could also bring down trees and power lines, leading to scattered power outages. Both the Friday morning and evening commutes are expected to be significantly impacted.

The NWS urges residents to take the following precautions:

  • Stay Informed: Monitor the latest weather forecasts for updates on the storm’s progress. You can find reliable information from the National Weather Service, local news, and Mooresville Now.
  • Travel Cautiously: If you must travel, slow down and use extreme caution. Be aware of potential black ice, especially on bridges and overpasses.
  • Emergency Kit: If you do need to travel, keep an emergency kit in your vehicle. This should include an extra flashlight, food, and water, in case you become stranded.

Mooresville Now will continue to provide updates on the winter storm as they become available. Stay safe!
