A special new neighborhood designed to honor those who have served is planned for Mooresville.

The future community, called Freedom Hill, will provide mortgage free homes for injured veterans, first responders, and Gold Star families. The project is being developed through a partnership between the nonprofit Building Homes for Heroes, the Town of Mooresville NC, and hometown company Lowe’s, whose corporate headquarters is located right here in Mooresville.

Plans for the neighborhood were announced last year, with a ceremonial groundbreaking held on Veterans Day in November 2025. The development will create a small community focused on supporting the men and women who have served our country and protected our communities.

The Freedom Hill project has been reported to be located near North Maple Street and Carpenter Avenue in Mooresville, close to Liberty Park and just outside the historic downtown area.

When completed, Freedom Hill is expected to include approximately 15 homes, each provided mortgage free to qualified veterans or first responders. The homes will be part of the Building Homes for Heroes program, which works across the country to provide housing and support for injured service members.

The goal of the community extends beyond simply providing housing. Programs connected to the initiative often include financial guidance and support services designed to help residents build stability, independence, and long term success.

For Mooresville, the project carries particular meaning. The town donated land for the development, helping make the community possible. Lowe’s, which has long supported veteran initiatives, is also involved in the project through its charitable efforts.

Freedom Hill reflects a growing movement across the country to create communities that recognize the sacrifices made by veterans and first responders. Instead of isolated homes scattered throughout different neighborhoods, these communities are designed to bring together people who share similar experiences and support one another.

As plans move forward, the Freedom Hill neighborhood will become a lasting tribute to the service and sacrifice of the men and women who have given so much for others.

Mooresville Now will continue following the progress of this meaningful project and will share updates as the community moves closer to becoming a reality.
