About the Lake Norman Orchestra

Founded in 2002, the Lake Norman Orchestra (often called “LKN Orchestra”) is one of the region’s premier community orchestras. It is made up entirely of volunteer musicians from across the Lake Norman and Charlotte area, ranging in age from students to retirees. Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings at 7:00 PM at Eastside Baptist Church in Mooresville.

The orchestra performs multiple concerts each year, including outdoor pops concerts, formal winter and spring programs, patriotic celebrations, and holiday performances. Their mission is to bring live symphonic music to the local community, promote music education, and provide opportunities for musicians of all backgrounds to perform together.

The orchestra is launching an ambitious schedule of concerts this season that will take place all over central North Carolina, from downtown Charlotte to Hamptonville in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

The Lake Norman Orchestra is always welcoming new members, especially string players—violin, viola, cello, and string bass—as well as percussionists. If you are interested in joining or know someone who would be a great addition, please reach out.

For several decades, the orchestra has also awarded college scholarships to high school musicians who regularly rehearse and perform with the group. In addition, the ensemble often collaborates with local choirs, schools, and arts organizations, strengthening the cultural life of the Lake Norman region.
