Clutch Coffee Bar to Close Locations as Company Transitions to Dutch Bros

After nearly eight years in operation, Clutch Coffee Bar announced it has reached an agreement to be acquired by Dutch Bros, marking the end of Clutch’s operations under its current brand.

According to the company, Clutch’s final day of business will be Friday, January 16, with locations closing at 4:00 p.m. Locations will then temporarily close while they are converted to Dutch Bros drive-thru coffee shops.

A Message From Clutch

In a message shared with customers, Clutch reflected on its journey and the decision to transition:

“Nearly eight years ago, we opened our very first drive-thru with a simple but clear mission: serve incredible drinks with positive energy and impact every local community we touch. Since then, you have helped us grow into something far bigger than a coffee company.”

“Today, I am excited to share an important milestone in our journey: we are in the process of reaching an agreement for Dutch Bros to acquire Clutch. This was not a decision made lightly—rather, it comes from a place of deep pride in what we’ve built together, and a belief that this next step will allow the culture, energy, and community-first spirit you helped create continue to grow on an even bigger stage.”

“What you can expect is the heartbeat of our brand to carry on—the positive people, quality, speed, and service—those values are only amplified with Dutch Bros.”

— Darren, Founder & CEO, Clutch Coffee Bar

Why the Transition Is Happening Now

In its FAQ section, Clutch explained that after nearly eight years of growth across the Carolinas, the company reached a natural point where transitioning to Dutch Bros could accelerate its mission without compromising its values. The company cited Dutch Bros’ people-first approach, operational expertise, and long-term vision as key reasons for the agreement.

Clutch stated that the transition is intended to preserve the culture and community focus that fueled its success while creating new opportunities for team members and customers.

Why Dutch Bros

Clutch described Dutch Bros as a values-aligned brand similarly built on human connection. According to the company, the acquisition is rooted in shared priorities such as quality, speed, service, and local community impact, rather than growth alone.

A Mooresville-Based Brand

Clutch Coffee Bar began in Mooresville with its first drive-thru location and grew into a multi-location brand across the Carolinas. The company thanked the Mooresville community for its support, noting that the brand was built on local connections, routines, and relationships formed over nearly a decade.
